Lucan Biddulph Community Memorial Centre

Renovation & Revitalization Project

Groundbreaking Ceremony

The Township of Lucan Biddulph has received a combined $5.5 million through the Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) – Community, Culture and Recreation (CCR) Stream for an expansion of the Lucan Biddulph Community Memorial Centre.  The Government of Canada is investing more than $3 million in the project, Ontario is providing more than $2.5 million, while the Township of Lucan Biddulph is investing more than $2 million to complete the renovation and revitalization of the Community Memorial Centre.

Although construction at the Community Memorial Centre is underway, a groundbreaking ceremony will be held on Friday April 22 at 11am.  Today, Peter Fragiskatos, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue and Member of Parliament for London North Centre, on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Monte McNaughton, Ontario’s Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development and Mayor Cathy Burghardt-Jesson were joined by the Township of Lucan Biddulph’s Council and community partners for the groundbreaking event of the future facility.

“This project will leave a lasting legacy for future generations.  The improvements will ensure improved accessibility and will be inclusive for all residents and for the many visitors that come to enjoy our community and sporting events,” says Cathy Burghardt-Jesson, Mayor of Lucan Biddulph.

This major project involves adding more multipurpose rooms, universal change rooms, family washrooms and upgrading the existing locker rooms. Additionally, renovations will improve the Community Centre’s accessibility by creating a barrier-free entrance, lobby and washrooms.  A new elevator will be installed to create accessible access to a new heated viewing area.

“Cheering for our minor and junior-level teams brings families and friends together and makes our community stronger,” said Monte McNaughton, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. “This expansion will ensure that the Lucan Biddulph Community Memorial Centre continues to offer everyone exciting and accessible recreational activities and fun for decades to come. I look forward to catching a Lucan Irish game with my family soon in these newly renovated facilities.”

“Recreational facilities play a vital role in the health and wellbeing of a community”, said Peter Fragiskatos, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue and Member of Parliament for London North Centre on behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities. “Our Government is pleased to support the expansion of the Lucan Community Memorial Centre, which will allow it to offer more recreational and social programming. I am thrilled for more community members of all ages to soon be able to benefit from the Centre’s upgraded facilities and varied programming.”
