FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Date:  December 19th, 2024

The Township of Lucan Biddulph is pleased to announce the purchase of 269 Main Street, a property adjoining the Lucan Biddulph Community Memorial Centre. This strategic acquisition secures land for potential future enhancements to the Community Centre, ensuring the Township remains well-prepared to meet the evolving needs of our growing community.

“This purchase marks a significant step in our commitment to enhancing recreational opportunities for residents and visitors,” said Mayor Cathy Burghardt-Jesson. “It represents a forward-thinking investment that aligns with Council's vision and the recommendations outlined in the recently updated Parks and Recreation Master Plan. As our population grows and the demand for ice time increases, this property positions us to explore future opportunities in a cost-effective and thoughtful way.”

The 2024 Parks and Recreation Master Plan highlighted the need to investigate a second ice surface to address the Township’s increasing population and growing demand for recreational facilities. Acquiring this property allows the Township to consider expanding the Community Centre directly, offering significant cost savings compared to constructing an off-site facility.

At this time, no decision has been made to proceed with constructing a second ice surface. However, securing this property ensures that the Township is well-positioned for future development while maintaining flexibility to adapt to the community's needs.

This acquisition underscores the Township’s proactive approach to planning for the future while continuing to deliver high-quality services and facilities for its residents.
